Candidiasis: fungal infection

Affect skin, Genitals,Throat,Mouth and Blood

Cause: overgrowth of a Candida, usually Candida albicans.

Types of candidiasis:

There are several types of candidiasis:

· Oral candidiasis (thrush) : affects mouth

Symptoms: White spots inside the mouth and on the tongue,Redness or discomfort in the mouth area,Sore throat and difficulty swallowing,Cracking at corners of the mouth

Treatments: depends on your Overall health,Age,Severity of the infection.

Medications:antifungal (pill/mouthwash)medicine to kill the yeast,antifungal drug given through a vein (IV).

· Yeast infection: affects the genital area

Symptoms:

Women: Extreme itching in the vaginal area,Soreness and redness in the vaginal White, clumpy vaginal discharge that looks like cottage cheese,Painful intercourse

Men: Red rash on penis,Itching or burning on the tip of the penis.

Treatments: suppository(vaginal/penis),Fluconazole,Boric acid,Probiotics

· Invasive candidiasis : infection enters bloodstream

Symptoms: fever and chills that continue after you have taken antibiotics

Treatment: antifungal medicine by mouth or through an IV for several weeks.

· Diaper rash: infects the skin on a baby's bottom area

Symptoms: Dark red patches of skin in the diaper area, especially in the folds of skin near the thighs.Yellow, fluid-filled spots that can break open and become flaky.

Treatment:antifungal ointment/cream
